Smart State update - 9th August 2006
Three Smart State Council research reports released today
In Parliament today, Premier Peter Beattie announced the release of three research reports prepared by the Smart State Council.
The reports identify emerging issues and trends and their implications for Queensland's future development as a Smart State.
"Since 1998, State Government has been positioning Queensland as the Smart State – a State where knowledge, creativity and innovation drive economic growth to improve prosperity and quality of life for all Queenslanders," Mr Beattie said.
"To this end, the Government has made substantial investments in science, technology, education, skills, research and innovation.
"In June 2005, I established the Smart State Council to be the external advisory body of respected individuals from business and the research community to provide top level advice.
"Taking on a challenging work program, I am pleased to table today the Council’s first three reports.
"These three reports are being published on the Smart State internet website and I urge Queenslanders to provide comment by 30 September," Mr Beattie said.
The Smart State Council reports are:
- Smart regions: characteristics of globally successful regions and implications for Queensland
- Business investment in research and development in Queensland – including access to capital
- Opportunities in tropical science, knowledge, research and innovation for Queensland.
