Professor Peter Andrews personifies what we mean by the Smart State.

As Queensland Chief Scientist since 2003, he has been the face of our State's science, research and innovation community.

He is a great communicator who speaks the language of science and industry, and knows how to demystify science for the general community.

Professor Andrews is passionate about building a strong knowledge economy for Queensland that will create jobs for the future. To realise this vision, he's dedicated himself to championing opportunities in the area of tropical science; an increase in R&D investment in Queensland; a culture of collaboration between Government, industry and research institutions; and a campaign to encourage more young Queenslanders to pursue a career in science.

Peter chairs the Smart State Council Standing Committee, and is also a bio-entrepreneur who has been at the forefront of initiatives to develop the Queensland and Australian biotechnology industry. Author of more than 100 publications and inventor on two patents, he has founded, co-founded or served as director of more than 10 scientific companies.

Over the years he has received numerous accolades, such as an Officer in the Order of Australia in January 2004 for service to science.
