Professor Peter Coaldrake
Professor Peter Coaldrake has been the Vice-Chancellor of Queensland University of Technology since 2003. Over this time, QUT has worked closely with the Queensland Government to accelerate the growth of Queensland's research capacity and performance in several strategic areas, including the creative industries, health and biomedical innovation, infrastructure, and information security. During this period QUT has been investing in its own campus infrastructure, particularly through a major partnership with the Queensland government in developing the Kelvin Grove Urban Village.
Professor Coaldrake is Executive Chair of Queensland’s 150th Celebrations Advisory Committee. He served as the Chair and CEO of Queensland Public Sector Management Commission from 1990-1994. In this role Professor Coaldrake contributed significantly to reviewing and renewing the Queensland Public Sector, particularly in terms of its accountability and professionalism in the post-Fitzgerald period.
He is a Board Member and Deputy Chair of Universities Australia and has just completed his term as Chair. He is also currently the Chair of the Board of the Australian-American Fulbright Commission. Twice a Fulbright scholar himself, Professor Coaldrake has extensive executive management experience spanning both the university and government sectors.
He is the author and editor of a number of books in the fields of politics and higher education. These include Working the System. Government in Queensland (UQP, 1989) and On the Brink - Australia's Universities Confronting Their Future (co-authored with Lawrence Stedman, UQP, 1998).
