Message from the Premier
When you combine smart people with one of earth's most megadiverse environments you have one of the world's most exciting locations for research, development, discovery and commercialisation - and that's Queensland in a nutshell.
We will be showing those qualities to the world from November 7 to 10 this year when Brisbane hosts Australia's annual biotechnology gathering, the AusBiotech National Conference.
This edition of Catalyst focuses on the breadth of Queensland's scientific achievements and shows that my government's emphasis on developing a Smart State culture is yielding tangible results.
Our scientists and developers are continually making breakthroughs in areas as diverse as mining, agriculture, medicine, software programming, education and sport that are of benefit not just to Queensland, but to the world.
Some of their work is showcased in this edition of Catalyst and I know you'll find it interesting.
I hope to see you in Brisbane in November for AusBiotech 2004.
Peter Beattie MP
Premier and Minister for Trade
