Winning gold!
More than 200 scientists attended Queensland’s third successful Science in Parliament day in October.
The event is an important part of the Queensland Government’s Smart State strategy and shows its commitment to fostering science research and innovation across the state.
“It’s a great opportunity to open the channels of communication between scientists and politicians and to give us a chance to enhance our mutual understanding,” Premier Peter Beattie said.
“We need leaders in science and innovation - but we also need leaders in Parliament who are enthusiastic about science and innovation.”
The day’s activities were led by Professor Peter Andrews, who was appointed last year as the first Queensland Chief Scientist.
“Professor Andrews is working hard to ensure that Queensland’s investment in science, research and innovation achieves positive returns,” Mr Beattie said.
This year’s Science in Parliament looked at what Queensland might be like in 2025 and how science would help shape the state’s future.
