While their peers earn good salaries working for the big corporations or travel the world under the weight of little more than a backpack, these tenacious and innovative young CEOs are putting everything on the line to build their own dream businesses.

As members of i.lab Incubator, the Queensland Government's Brisbane-based technology incubator, they started their businesses with just an idea but they represent Queensland's knowledge-based future. Left to right: Mike Chambers, 29, of Kerpow, has developed a revolutionary SMS marketing technology; Matt Connelly, 30, of Sound Evolution, is the sound designer for Farm Kids, a new Queensland-made animated TV series and the developer of software tools for sound engineering; Lisa Le Strange, 37, of AQUEN, delivers aquatic and environmental testing services to the public sector; Larry Weng, 26, of ActiveTorque Pty Ltd, is developing technology with the potential to significantly improve the efficiency of motor vehicle engines; Steve Kenny, 25, of Snowsports Interactive, is developing wireless technology to help skiers and snowboarders improve their performance and keep safe; Mark Bathie, 28, of CVSDude, provides open source software engineering tools for software developers; and Dale Rankine, 33, of Moket, creates innovative software products for mobile phones and multimedia games.

i.lab incubator CEO Ann-Marie Birkill said these young and enthusiastic people were developing the businesses of Queensland future. "We are very proud to support them as they build their businesses and offer business development, mentoring and networking opportunities to assist them as they do." i.lab is a key initiative of the Queensland Government's Smart State Strategy.
