Message from the Premier
Smart State innovators know no bounds. Nothing is too small to be explored or too big to be fathomed. Certainly, our accomplishments are not defined or confined by size.
This edition of Catalyst is a perfect example, covering numerous Queensland breakthroughs that range from the undetectable to the barely visible.
Our cover story explains how micro-sensors could soon make a giant difference to the monitoring of sport performance, with the power to take our athletes to victory.
Little kids have been marvelling at the microscopic intricacies of fruit flies in all their three-dimensional glory thanks to the immense talents of a Smithsonian Fellow.
Then there’s the highly-charged character of a new mobile phone game, who’s smaller than a SIM card, created in Queensland, and launched onto the massive US market.
Small technologies. Big applications.
Also in this issue are two world-firsts – an obesity drug to downsize our collective girth, and a revolutionary surface coating to make aeroplanes invisible to radar.
I’m sure you’ll agree, these Smart State innovations are big news.

Premier and Minister for Trade
