Message from the Premier
Being the Smart State is about so much more than researchers in white coats, and this issue of Catalyst proves it beyond any doubt.
It is about striving for innovation and world’s best practice across the whole gamut of society. It is about Queenslanders doing clever things that will have long-term benefits to not only our state but to the world. In this issue of Catalyst, we feature a wide range of Queenslanders making their mark on the global stage.
From the Queensland-based contemporary circus troupe Circa who are wowing audiences on several continents to exporters impressing the world with electrical switches and computer software design networks, Queenslanders prove yet again that our physical location in the world is no impediment to excellence.
We also feature some exciting developments in medical research with a bold move to beat golden staph infections in hospitals, while our great Aussie icon the kangaroo may hold the key to a cancer cure.
These and other stories underline just how far Queensland has come under the Smart State Strategy and how so many exciting possibilities have opened up for Queensland researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs because of our investment in Smart State funding programs.
