Message from the Premier
Not so long ago it was commonly thought that our best and brightest had to leave Queensland if they were to be a part of world-class science, engineering and the arts.
But as this issue of Catalyst proves, people are now coming to Queensland for the chance to work on a wide range of innovative and exciting ventures that will have benefits for the entire world.
The brain drain has become a brain gain. As Professor Perry Bartlett from the Queensland Brain Institute reports, we’ve attracted over 500 new scientists to Queensland in the last five years and that has changed our culture.
This issue of Catalyst also shows that Queensland is making its mark in the creative arts with the new film tank on the Gold Coast attracting Hollywood’s best.
With a State Government committed to providing world class facilities for scientists and researchers and strong support of the arts, Queensland will continue to grow as the destination of innovation!
