The online consultation process titled Your Smart State, your say closed on 14 December 2007. The purpose of the consultation process was to seek your input on the future of the Smart State Strategy.
We wanted to capture your ideas about how we can harness knowledge, creativity and innovation to drive economic growth to improve prosperity and quality of life for all Queenslanders. What are we doing well? What do we need to do differently?
Your ideas will help shape the next stage of the Smart State Strategy, which will be released in mid-2008.
Education and skills for the future
- How can we build on the Education and Training Reforms for the Future and our $1 billion Queensland Skills Plan to ensure our education and training systems prepare Queenslanders for the jobs of the future?
Research to create tomorrow's ideas
- Are the current Queensland R&D Priorities (such as Tropical Opportunities) relevant for the future?
- What are the science and research priorities for the next 10-20 years?
- To date, the Queensland Government has focused its R&D investment on infrastructure, skills and commercialisation. What is the right mix of R&D support that the Queensland Government can provide
into the future?
- The Queensland Government has used programs such as the Innovation Projects Fund to encourage
research-industry collaborations and increase business expenditure on R&D. What other measures could
the government implement to facilitate these outcomes?
- How can we build on our current fellowship and scholarship programs to attract and retain the brightest scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs and teachers in Queensland?
Innovation - making ideas count
- To date the focus of the Smart State Strategy has been to build a strong research and development base to provide a platform for developing our existing and emerging industries. How can the Queensland Government extend the focus of the Smart State Strategy to drive innovation across industry and the community?
- What else can we do to increase levels of innovation more broadly across Queensland's existing
and emerging industries?
- How can we build a stronger culture of entrepreneurship and innovation across the community in Queensland?
- How can we extend our innovation policies and improve knowledge-intensity across more industry sectors?
- What other measures can be used to accelerate our level of knowledge-intensive exports?
Building the Smart State on a sustainable environment
- How can the Queensland Government extend its commitments within and beyond areas such as water
and air quality, climate change and biodiversity to sustain our natural environment for future generations?
Stronger communities
- How do we capitalise on our buoyant economy to create a culture of creativity and innovation and ensure opportunities are spread throughout Queensland communities?
- How could the Smart State Strategy extend its reach into areas such as the arts and culture?
