Smart Queensland: Open to the future
Smart Queensland is about building a future in a constantly changing world. We can predict some things about our future:
- scientific and technological advances will continue, increasing people’s choices in medical and health care, housing, and in environmental and transport systems.
- the proportion of the population worldwide with higher education will grow rapidly.
- the nature and capacity of information and communication technologies will continue to expand.
- the world’s economies will become increasingly interconnected.
- the population of the developed world will stabilise and grow older. The population of much of the developing world will continue to grow for some time.
- regional disparities in wealth across the world will remain.
However, we cannot predict all the future will bring or how future generations of Queenslanders will perceive or want to respond to those changes. Consequently, we have planned Smart Queensland on a three-year platform, so that we can review the results within the context of changing circumstances.
The capacity to think ahead as well as respond and adapt to change is as much an attitude as it is a skill. Such an attitude of foresight, responsiveness and adaptability is strongest in a society that provides the safety and security of social stability at the same time that it values the dynamism of creativity, inventiveness and the energy of the human spirit.
The Queensland Government understands this. This is why Smart Queensland is so important to us. It establishes the firm foundations of economic and social stability and opens the door for innovation, strengthening our individual and community capacity to respond to the future and all that it brings.
Through our innovative and creative enterprise, and our strong pursuit of trade opportunities, the world will look to Queensland as a place of great inspiration and achievement, in which the rewards are enjoyed by all Queenslanders.
The Queensland Government looks forward to the results of Smart Queensland - we invite you to join us in this venture.
