People

Queenslanders can be proud of their achievements on the world stage – from cancer vaccines to Oscar-winning film animatronics.

The 2008 Smart State Strategy will treble our investment in people, to harness Queenslanders’ talent.

We’re spending $23.3 million to retain Queensland’s best and brightest and attract the best minds from around the world.

This funding will:

Bring global knowledge and ideas back to Queensland. The $3.3 million International Fellowships Program will provide opportunities for 13 Queenslanders per year to undertake research with world-class institutes in the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the United States of America.

Encourage industry-research exchanges. The $4 million Commercialisation Fellowships for Researchers and Entrepreneurs-in-Residence Program will exchange leading minds in industry and research to commercialise research discoveries.

We’re also improving health services through research. Our $25 million Health and Medical Research Program will fund six Senior Clinical Fellows, 22 Health Research Fellows and 12 Clinical Academic Fellows. It will attract world-class clinicians and health professionals to translate research into better health services for Queenslanders. In addition we will establish the first dedicated Office of Health and Medical R&D in Queensland Health to lead R&D activity in Queensland’s health sector.
